Compendium of Curiosities Challenge 35!

Design Details
With a Special Prize from Tim, Mario and Me!

Well, CCCers, this is it! Challenge 35. I'm thrilled that we've covered every single challenge in Tim Holtz's magnificent book, A Compendium of Curiosities...
... and at the same time, I'm sad that it's over!

(Or is it??)

Throughout this series, I've made it a point to not do the techniques in the order they appear in the book, but I always knew I wanted to end with the final lesson Tim presented in the Compendium: Design Details. What a fun way to wrap things up! I had a blast making my example piece, and I bet you're going to enjoy this one immensely, too. Go ahead and open your Compendium of Curiosities to page 67, and let's get started!

I have one final batch of those wonderful goodies Tim and Mario sent, and the winner of Challenge 35 will receive them! Can you think of a more wonderful keepsake than an autographed Umbrella Man stamp set? ( I had to twist my own arm to let go of this, but you guys are worth it!). There's also a stash of those beautiful Vintage Shabby Papers, a set of Idea-ology Word Keys and a Sanding Grip. Oh, and I've added a copy of one of my other favorite books in the whole world, Tim's Distressables 2!

To be eligible to win our Grand Finale prize, please create your own art using the Design Details technique and link it to this blog via the InLinkz button at the bottom of this post. You're in the running as long as you honor these two simple rules:

1. Follow the technique as it's written in the Compendium of Curiosities (adding your own special flair, of course!); and

2. Out of respect to Tim, please don't post the technique instructions on your blog!

As she has each week, the lovely and talented Gloria, List Mom at the All Things Tim group, will also send a sweet prize to one of our participants! Simply add your image to the Compendium of Curiosities folder at the All Things Tim home page, and be sure to tag your photo "CCC #35." Gloria will choose her winner from that folder. If you're not yet a member at All Things Tim, well, what are you waiting for?! They're the greatest people, and will welcome you with open arms!
So, I've dropped a few hints over these past few weeks that there just might be something new happening once we wrap up this final week of the CCC. I'll give you all the details when I announce the winners of Challenge 35 next Monday morning, but suffice it to say, it ain't over, baby! You might find a hint or two hidden in my example piece above, if you look really closely...

Have an amazingly wonderful week, everyone!

Hugs,
Linda

I saw on a video that Tim is working on a second curiosities book - so all is not lost - although I am squinting really hard to see what you have journalled behind the DISRESS words - although I am guessing the 28th march all will be revealed! Fabulous challenges and amazing contributions on this blog - it would be a shame for it all to end...

I have popped on here from time to time through this challenge via a friend's blog. It is wonderful to see such great work by everyone. But I must say that it wasn't exactly fair to everyone. I would have definitely joined in the fun, if I had the book. But I am disabled and therefore on a very low budget. It would have been less discriminatory if you had at least "para-phrased" the ideas and instructions.
I am hoping to have this book in the future, perhaps for my up-coming B-day or next Christmas.

Thanks for all the great art. Congrats to all the lucky winners.
Susan

Hi Susan,

Thanks for your thoughtful comment, and I absolutely understand your point of view. I'm very sorry that the Challenge series felt discriminatory against those on a limited income. It truly wasn't meant to be! Because these challenges were directly taken from copyrighted material owned by Tim Holtz, it would have been both unethical and unfair of me to post the technique instructions on my blog. While I'm a big believer in sharing ideas and supporting other crafters in their art, I also want to be sensitive to the fact that professional artists like Tim count on book sales for their livelihood. There's no perfect solution, but I have to honor intellectual property rights.

The good news is, there's a new project beginning here on my blog shortly that I hope you'll want to participate in, and you won't need a book to play along. :-)

Thanks so much, Linda, for hosting and organizing this awesome journey we've all taken! Even though I started late and haven't been able to participate in many of the challenges, it has been a true pleasure to do the ones I have, and to watch all of the incredible art of everyone else even when I couldn't participate myself. What a wonderful group of artists this challenge has drawn. I am SOOO happy that the fun is not over, and can't wait to see what distressing, grungy, salvaging fun is in store for us on the 28th!! :P

Thanks for a great weekly challenge Linda, I can't believe it's actually the last one, or is it as you say LOL. Been trying to work out some clues from your fabulous piece of art. Love love all your design details. Think 28th March may be the reveal date and was wondering whether the words salvage, distress and grungy had anything to do with it, mmmm will just have to wait and see LOL. Thanks again Linda. Fabulous piece of artwork Linda and so different to mine which is rather girly in comparison. This was a perfect opportunity to use the bits in my leftovers box which is why it's pink and green!

Can't wait to find out about the future plans and sorry not to do more of the CCCs, time always seems to get away!
Thanks so much for hosting the challenges as it's great to see all the artwork inspired by Sir Tim.

Thank you, thank you, thank you, Linda, for hosting this amazing challenge! 35 challenges! Your final piece is fabulous and your art has been a great inspiration. It was so cool to play with all of the techniques; some I thought I already knew how to do and didn't, so glad of the refresher; some I didn't think were that interesting - but really were! Some that I am so glad I learned and will continue to use often. This has been wonderful. Cheers!!!
